Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. When she was just five, she moved to Oxfordshire and went to her first Dragon School. When she was six years old, Emma realized that she wanted to be an actor and for some time she studied at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school where she studied performing and singing. By the time she turned 10, Emma had taken part in several Stagecoach productions as well as school productions. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, the 2001 film adaptation from J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Casting agents stumbled upon Emma through her Oxford theater teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone as well as Ron Weasley told Emma after eight auditions that she had been selected for the roles. She was cast alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's debut film appearance came with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2001. The film set records on the opening weekend and numbers, and was the highest-grossing film of 2001. Reviewers have been highly acclaimed of the film, as well as the performances given by three of the main young actors. The highly distributed British daily The Daily Telegraph called her performance "awesome. Then Emma was shortlisted for five awards for her performance in the film and was awarded an award called the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in an Feature Film.
